What should I bring to my consult?
We highly encourage you to bring any visual reference which helps us better understand your ideas! We love it when our clients are prepared, coming to us with fairly specific ideas in regards to subject matter, size and placement, and bring us plenty of visual references, such as:- Images from the internet, Drawings, sketches, doodles, diagrams and Photographs.
How should I prepare for getting a tattoo?
The day of your tattoo appointment be sure to arrive promptly. Be well-rested, fed, and hydrated. Dress appropriately: wear something comfortable that gives easy access to the area to be tattooed and that you don't mind getting ink on (things can get a bit messy in the tattoo area). Feel free to bring in some sort of entertainment: an MP3 player, a good book, a friend for conversation, etc. to help pass the time. Before you start, you will fill out a release form (you'll need your ID), and your artist will make a stencil of your design. Your artist will place the stencil on you and the two of you will decide exactly where it should be placed and how big it will be.
Do you do cover-ups?
Yes, we actually do a lot of cover ups, and they make up a large portion of the work we do here. What is a cover-up? This is when you have an existing tattoo - maybe something that is older, and the wearer no longer likes the tattoo for one reason or another and has a tattoo artist design something to go over it with a new design. The goal is to completely cover the old tattoo so that you cannot see the old one underneath it.
Does it Hurt?
Well of course, but how much it hurts really depends on the tattoo and placement and your own tolerance level. The important thing to remember is, the pain is usually very minor (not as bad as you'd think) and the pain is only temporary. The tattoo is forever.
When should I not get a tattoo?
You shouldn’t get a tattoo if you’re drunk or high (and most tattoo shops have a policy in place about this; they’ll refuse to tattoo anyone who appears to be drunk or high or as a sign in one shop says, “just plain stupid”). The other reason for not getting a tattoo is if you’re not sure. Wait until you do feel sure or just don’t get one. This is not a good thing to feel ambiguous about. There are no specific medical considerations, but use your common sense. If you’re sick, wait till you get better.
How old do I have to be to get a tattoo?
Usually eighteen, though this can vary from place to place. Some tattoo shops are more diligent than others about asking for I.D., so some people do succeed in getting a tattoo before they’re eighteen. It’s usually not a good idea, though. The older you are when you get a tattoo, the less likely you’ll be to regret it later on!
How should I take care of my tattoo?
Looking after your tattoo properly may result in loss of quality, so you should follow these instructions carefully. Do not listen to your friends and people in bars who think they have a better idea.Remove bandage in 2 to 4 hours. Wash tattoo carefully with warm water and mild soap. Pat Dry. Apply a thin layer of lotion after a few hours and then twice a day for about a week or until the skin is no longer dry. A good lotion to use is Lubriderm. Don’t use fancy creams, hippy potions, or perfumed lotions. You do not need antibiotic creme. Showers are fine. Baths, swimming, and sauna are out until the tattoo is healed. No sun or tanning until the tattoo is completely healed. Sunburn on a fresh tattoo can cause severe irritation and allergy. Do not pick, scratch, or ‘help’ the scab to come off. If you have any questions please call the person who did your tattoo.
I’ve heard that getting tattoos can be addictive. Is that true?
It isn’t true in the sense of a real addiction, but it is a fact that people who already have one tattoo are more likely to get another one … or so. It is possible to get ‘hooked’ on the excitement of getting a tattoo, just as some people get ‘hooked’ on shopping, but that’s not a real addiction. Most people who end up with multiple tattoos do so simply because they like them.
How much does it cost?
Tattoo prices vary according to the size and tattoo designs, Hourly rate is $150 ( group discounts available. Full day rate is $800 (6 hours) Bring your design – or just describe it – and most tattoo shops will be able to quote you a price right then and there.
